Jackals Finally Get the Ring

Jacksonville (AP) - After 7 seasons of playing postseason bridesmaids, the Jacksonville Jackals are finally walking away from the wedding as the blushing brides. Pitching carried the team through the playoffs, as they posted a 2.58 team ERA (almost two full runs lower than the regular season number). The starting rotation of David Valentin, Ramiro Cornejo and Sammy Bennett kept Jacksonville close, and bullpen mainstays Kareem Freeman and Bob Shaw slammed the door. An unreal power spurt from Geraldo Guardado pushed the team through the first two rounds, and the consistent hitting of Marty Beckett and Midre Martin helped bring the long overdue trophy home to the Land of Hanging Chads. When asked to reflect on the championship, and on the season as a whole, G.M. examinerebb said "It feels great to know that trophy will be sitting in our office next season. The thing that makes it even better is the overwhelming number of talented owners in the league. Finding ourselves on top of a league with this much talent, top to bottom, is truly an acheivement. We're looking forward to putting in the work to run the gauntlet in the ridiculously tight American League and defend the title next season, and also to competing with all of these owners for many seasons to come."
